- Student expression, poetry and jazz came together to entertain a crowd
of about 200 Thursday evening, with students taking the opportunity to
read their poetic works on stage in the University Student Union.
-
- "This is our second evening of poetry and jazz," event organizer
Aaron Elionelech said. "Last month we had a pretty good turnout, and
tonight is better. We hope to make this a monthly event because students
love it. They can read their own poetry, or just relax, eat and enjoy themselves."
-
- Sanctuary, a five-piece student band, provided the background for each
reading. The music was mellow and laid-back.
-
- "This is my first time here and I am excited to get up there.
It's nice to have the opportunity to express myself in a positive atmosphere,"
said business and communications major Donna Newman.
-
- Michael, graduate student in English, read three poems he wrote about
cocaine addiction, back problems and school woes.
-
- "I think it's cool," he said. "The school needs to have
more places like this for students to express themselves."
-
- The event was sponsored by the University Student Union Program Council.
