The disappearance of Mo' Better Barbecue and Paradise Bakery in the University Student Union is no longer a mystery.

Paradise Bakery's disappearance is only temporary due to the remodeling and upgrading being done in the Student Union, said Diane Dumas, the assistant to the director of the Student Union.

Mo' Better Barbecue was supposed to open on the second floor of the Student Union when the remodeling began early in the 1996, Fall semester.

When its lease was up in November of 1996, Mo' Better Barbecue wanted to renegotiate, but no one knows what happened, Dumas said. They have not returned any phone calls, she said.

Shaka's, a food vendor currently serving japanese and hawaiian cuisine in the Student Union, is presently negotiating taking the space where Mo' Better Barbecue was, Dumas said.

Paradise Bakery is expected to be the fourth vendor in the food court, Dumas said. The other three are Subway, King Taco and Carl's Jr.

During the 1996, Fall semester remodeling, Paradise Bakery tried to start business on the second floor, Dumas said. But because of the lack of student traffic through the area, it lost money.
