Memorial services were held Thursday at noon for Dr. Robert A. Roth, former chairman of the department of teacher education. The services took place at Cal State Long Beach's Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.

The quiet setting allowed approximately 165 mourners to pay their last respects to this dedicated educator.

Among those present at the memorial were Roth's children, Rob, Todd, and Tracy; friends; colleagues and students.

Those that spoke about Roth were Jean Houck, dean of college of education; Christina Ramirez of the Student California Teacher Association; John Sikula of the State of California Association of Teacher Educators; John Attinasi and Leland Perry of the teacher education department; and Adele Langworthy of the University Interfaith Center.

Roth, who was with CSULB for ten years, died Feb. 23 of skin cancer.

"[Roth] was a kind and respectful person to work for. He challenged and inspired us all to do good work. He will be greatly missed," Susan McNamara, secretary for teacher education, said.

The service ended with a small catered reception near the Koi pond in the garden.
