Cal State Long Beach Senior Craig Roy, was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at Long Beach Community Hospital after being treated for head trauma, according to his friend Jason Kuncewicki. Roy's death is still under investigation according to Kuncewicki. The Long Beach Police Department was not willing to release any information regarding Roy's death.

Kuncewicki said that Roy had been in a medically- induced coma and paralysis for eight days. The coma and paralysis were induced to immobilize him because his body was reacting in a way in which any kind of motion or movement could cut off oxygen to his brain. He said that Roy had had three strokes to his brain during the week because of lack of oxygen. Long Beach Community Hospital had no comment.

Before his death Roy requested his organs be donated. "Monday was when they told us it was over," Kuncewicki said. Doctors removed the respirator and let Roy try to breathe on his own. He could not. The doctors did this so that his family and friends could gain closure, Kuncewicki said.

Roy is survived by his parents Fred and Kathy Roy, sister Katie, brother Kevin and brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Memorial services will be held on Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at Saint Williams Church at 6410 Santa Lucia in Atascadero, Calif. A memorial service is being planned in Long Beach and will probably be held in two weeks, Kuncewicki said.
