The benefits of watching sports

Dimar Borrero, a 21-year-old junior at Cal State Long Beach, often finds herself relaxed after watching a basketball game at The Pyramid. Borrero, a biology major, who plans to go to medical school after graduation, dedicates most of her time to studying. Striving for good grades, Borrero says, often makes her feel "stressed out and exhausted."

Borrero says attending sport events at CSULB is a fun and exciting activity that helps her relieve her stress. She says seeing people in cheering moods puts her in a good mood.

There are many CSULB sport events for the 1996-1997 year that are held on both weekdays and weekends. Men and women's basketball began last semester and will continue through the spring semester. Individual game tickets for men's basketball are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $10 for faculty and staff and $6 for youths.

There are 1,000 free tickets available for students, on a first-come-first-serve basis. For women's basketball, tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens, faculty, staff and youths. Season tickets are available. Home games are played at The Pyramid. Men's volleyball also runs through the spring semester. Individual game tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, faculty, staff and youths. Students are admitted free with student ID.

Baseball games start during the spring semester. Individual game tickets for a box seat are $7. Adult tickets are $5, and senior citizens, faculty, staff and youths are $3.

Season tickets and season box seats are available by request. Home games are played about two miles off campus at Blair Field. Students are admitted free with student ID.

Borrero says she rather go to a CSULB game than to a party or club. "It's a good environment and a great way to meet people. There are tons of college students there," she says. "And the best part about it, is that it's free."
