Sula leads LBSU in finale

Long Beach State guard Reta Sula scored 21 points making six 3-point baskets to lead the women's basketball team over Idaho 79-68 Saturday.

The 49ers end the regular season with an overall record of 18-9 and a Big West Conference record of 12-3.

By securing a second place finish in the Big West Western Division, LBSU will take on the Big West East third place team Boise State in the Big West Conference women's basketball tournament.

Other tournament games include UC Santa Barbara vs. Idaho, Pacific against North Texas and Nevada will meet Cal Poly.

In other LBSU sports news, the 49er men's volleyball team had an easy time against Laverne, sweeping them in three games 15-3, 15-2 and 15-5 Thursday.

The 49ers (12-2) only had one member of their starting lineup in the game and still took less than one hour to defeat the Leopards.

Next up for the men's volleyball team is a home tournament. The 49ers are scheduled to play Penn State on Thursday.

In final weekend news, the 49er women's tennis team lost to UCI 7-2 Friday. 49ers Sophie Han and Cheryl Kindred picked up the only two victories. 

The 49ers next play Yale on Tuesday at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club in Laguna Beach.
