Conduct at A.S.I. meeting insulting
I was insulted by Senator Michael Braga's
unprofessional conduct and comments made against La Raza and KBEACH Radio
during the Associated Students Inc. Senate meeting Wednesday.
When we expressed our views, he refused
to make eye contact and berated us with personal questions that were irrelevant
to the issue.
As a student who volunteers my time for
the station, I felt I must express my opinion before a decision that directly
affects the students was made. He was quoted in Tuesday's issue of the
Daily Forty-Niner as saying "I see this as them throwing a fit," when he
responded in a childish manner by calling the students "booger butts."
In contrast, the KBEACH Radio staff acted
in a professional manner throughout the whole process. Even A.S.I.
president-elect Robert Garcia felt Braga acted way out of line in the way
he treated us.
In response to Senator Justin Ramirez's
comment, "Nobody from KBEACH ever approached me on this issue," I would
like to say that not one Senator has ever visited the station. As representatives
of the students they serve, it is their duty to meet their constituents.
I want to thank Senator Aaron Moore for
speaking out on behalf those who spoke. He was there to serve us.
After the meeting, KBEACH people were close
to tears because our voices, those of the students the Senators serve,
were ignored. Senator Braga made a big fool of himself by his actions at
the last meeting.
In conclusion, I want to say that my experiences
with KBEACH have been truly unforgettable because of the staff I've come
to know as friends.
I have also become acquainted with local
bands and people connected in the music industry, connections that I never
would have made without this station. |
