A group of students are assisting Solobiz.com
in promoting its Web site this week.
"It's an event to make people aware of
Solobiz.com," said event
organizer and Cal State Long Beach public relations student Leslie Torres.
The event, which started Tuesday and runs
until Saturday, is part of the Bateman Case Study Competition, a national
contest for college public relations programs.
The Public Relations Society of America
chose Solobiz.com to
be the focus of the competition, Torres said.
Different public relations programs will
be judged by quality of their press releases, designing of the Solobiz.com
logo, hits on the Web Site and other criteria, Torres said.
A pep rally for the Web site will be held
today in front of The Nugget from noon to 1 p.m. with information at a
tailgate party on Saturday.
Students can sign up for Los Angeles Lakers
and Clippers tickets, T-shirts and hats throughout the week. A drawing
for the prizes will be held toward the end of the week, Torres said.
Torres, Tim Gilman, Julie Weitzberg, Latreisha
Gee and Katie Gahagan helped organize the event with adviser Emma Daugherty,
associate professor of journalism.
The public relations group placed first
last year in the Bateman competition against colleges such as the University
of Florida, the University of Georgia, Brigham Young University and Fresno
State.
