Car bandits target Civics

By Marten Lewerth

If you own a Honda Civic, watch out.

In the first two days after spring break, University Police received six reports of auto burglaries and only one of the vehicles was not a Honda Civic.

University Police Chief Jack Pearson urged Civic owners Wednesday to take extra precautions while parking on campus. Among his suggestions, which he added apply to all vehicle owners, are the following:
Remove valuables from plain sight. If you can't take them with you, lock them in the trunk of your car.

If applicable, make sure to remove the stereo's detachable faceplate.

Always roll up your windows and lock the doors.

Double check all of the above.

Pearson also said the recent string of burglaries may be related. Additionally, patrol units have increased their observation efforts in the parking lots involved, Pearson said.
