Break a time to work, chill out

By Greg Hanson

The annual week has come where school is thrown to the side and more important activities are partaken such as relaxing, boozing, sitting on the beach and not doing anything.

Yes, spring break is here again.  Some Cal State Long Beach students are headed to other countries while others will keep it local and just relax. One of the most popular destinations, as always, is south of the border in old Mexico.

Senior business major Paul Gonzales is headed to San Felipe, Mexico, for three days with friends from CSULB. He said they would enjoy some partying, relaxation and sun before he comes back and prepares for graduation.

"I need to get away from everything really bad," Gonzales said. "I need some relaxation and to get my mind off everyday life."

Veronica Madril, a senior marine biology major, will spend the entire week in Central America.

"I'm going to a small island off the coast of Belize to scuba dive, lay in the sun, eat, relax and be away from everybody," she said.
Madril said she considered going to Cancun, a good scuba diving spot, but she wanted to avoid the major spring break destination for the college crowd.

Junior health science major Cecilia Trujillo is also bound for San Felipe.

"I'm going for only three days because I have to come back to work after that," she said.  "We're going to chill, drink, go clubbing, go to the beach and eat some carne asada.  I just really want to relax."

Senior Aaron Thompson said he plans to stay in the area but he has some work to do. "I'm actually going to be moving into a new apartment," Thompson said. "I'm going to be a bachelor for a month and then my fiancée is moving in after our wedding."

Junior graphic design major Jamie Gonzales will also stay local. "I'm just going to stay around here and try to get out in the sun, maybe go to the beach a few times, but I have to work," Gonzales said.
