Semester ends with happy thoughts
So the semester is over. It's hard to believe
that I won't be working for the Daily Forty-Niner anymore.
During this semester I have worked very
hard, put in many hours and have written many articles.
Some articles I wrote have gotten different
responses from the writers and editors of the Forty-Niner and people on
campus.
I will never forget the reaction that I
received from my article called "How to meet girls."
The morning the paper came out I entered
the basement of Social Science and Public Affairs building and headed toward
the newsroom ready to start my day.
As I approached the building everyone started
asking me about my article. News editor Michelle Devera asked: "So are
you going to walk up to some CSULB girls and say hi?"
I of course was rather surprised at how
it seemed almost everyone on staff had read my article and was talking
about it. I figured maybe some people were going to read it, but not everyone!
In my advanced reporting and writing class,
professor Julio Laboy dedicated a good chunk of class time analyzing my
article. They even took a vote in class to see how many people I offended
with the column.
Every once in a while my articles would
get a nice reaction like that and that would make me feel quiet good.
Towards the end of last semester I was
being recruited as Diversions editor for spring 2000 semester but I decided
to stay on as staff writer.
My writing has really improved and I got
a part-time job at the Long Beach Press-Telegram, which will eventually
turn into a full-time writer position.
Yes, my future is looking quite good and
that makes me very happy.
Part of the reason I have succeed is because
of my hard work, and another part of the reason is because of the quality
paper that I write for, the Daily FortyNiner.
This summer I have many projects that I
plan to working on. Some of them include finishing up a screenplay, writing
a short manuscript on Bolivian cinema, working out, partying, and working
for the Press-Telegram.
So I say my goodbyes to Cal State Long
Beach but only for the summer, because I will be back next semester.
