Local boys ready for break

Long Beach band Nimbus Luna continues to impress despite being overlooked by big record companies.

Nimbus' main influences are the Replacements and Jane's Addiction but the new album "Car Window" shows that the group is capable of mixing many different sounds and styles.

"Throw You Up Again" displays some catchy, high pitched guitar playing by Shannon McMurray and some melancholy lyrics by frontman Ron Legaspi.

CD REVIEW: A

"What can I tell you about myself?/I've got nothing here to offer just myself/I will drink cheap wine ‘til I throw you up again/Because at this point right now I've lost my self respect."

"Silhouette Smile" goes back and forth between a slow melody, where the Jane's Addiction influence shines, and a much faster punk beat.

"Day Timers" features some funky bass playing by Derek Bolin and rapid drumming by Randy Maass to accompany the static-sounding distortion.

The album's last song is the title track and greatest achievement. It follows the same path as "Humble," a ballad that stole the show on Nimbus' last album. The soft guitar and bass playing and marching drumbeat set the mood for more of Legaspi's painful lyrics.

All this and a booklet with hilarious photos of the band members so you can't go wrong. It is only a matter of time before the right people notice this talented group.
