Open audition bounces through Long Beach

Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel brought a carnival-like atmosphere to El Dorado Park East in Long Beach Saturday, though it was not quite as innocent as your average carnival.

Under dark clouds threatening rain, 16 hopeful young women tolerated chilly weather for a shot at appearing on Comedy Central's "The Man Show," hosted by Carolla and Kimmel.

"When I used to come to this park to rape geese, I never thought I'd return," Carolla joked.

The concept of the Man Show is to "show guys a bunch of stuff they want to see," Corolla said. He and Kimmel come up with most of the ideas for the show.

Kimmel thought of the idea to have women jumping on a trampoline for the show.

"I'm pretty darn proud of it," he said. "It's pretty shocking, isn't it?"

Saturday's event wasn't so much an audition as a chance for the crowd of about 200 testosterone fueled guys to watch women bounce on a trampoline, hoping to get a glimpse of an exposed body part here or there.

The crowd was not disappointed. The girls flipped and flopped all over the trampoline while the crowd coaxed them into showing their breasts or raising their skirts and flashing their underwear.

While not all girls went as far, some were more than willing and incited the crowd to cheer louder before they exposed themselves.

To the chant of "Take it off! Take it off!" that rang out across the park, breasts and buttocks were bared to the camera, the crowd and the cold.

"It's a good excuse to flash my underwear," said Stephanie Lahman, one of the girls who bounced.

Carolla and Kimmel put out a cattle call, which means an open audition was being held and no one needed an agent or a manager to have a shot at getting on the show.

They announced the cattle call on radio station KROQ and in various college newspapers.

"We like the idea of having young college girls," said show segment producer, David Jeser. "The people who watch the show are young college age guys and we want to have real girls. We don't want fake-breasted, fake-blonde actress wannabes."

"It's kind of like being a pinata," said Chelsea Stewart, the first of the girls to show her breasts to the crowd.

Jesser said he chose Long Beach over a location closer to Hollywood because he did not want to get a lot of actress wannabes from Hollywood.

Chelsea Stewart described requests for exposure from the crowd as "kind of like being hit from all different directions."

Claire Nikkelson and Julie Rindone said they wore schoolgirl outfits to get the attention of Carolla and Kimmel.

Carolla and Kimmel picked girls they liked and those girls will get to showcase their trampoline talents when appearing on the Man Show late in the season, Jesser said.

"We definitely want them to look like they are having fun," he said. "We definitely want them to look like the girls everybody wants to see jump on a trampoline."
