L.B. band magnificent

What could have been just another band from the Long Beach music mold proved to be so much more.

The Magnificents showed what they are made of last week.

Bassist Steve Faulkner, a Cal State Long Beach student, said he has been waiting to play in front of an audience for a long time. Faulkner and his other band members had their opportunity last week.

The Magnificents played its first show last Sunday at the Regal Inn in Lakewood. For a premiere performance, the band drew a large turnout.

Opening the first set with "Little Hawaiian Girl" was a great move by the band. The bounce tune infected a few with the boogie bug. And a few more songs into the set, more people were out on the dance floor.

What was more amazing about this first performance was the fact that two members of the band were just added a week-and-a-half before the first gig.

Word of mouth spread quickly after the band's first gig. The audience nearly doubled at the next show, only three days later at King Neptune's in Sunset Beach.
