Indie music night back at The Nugget

Indie rock is invading again.

While the first invasion brought bands like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and the Who, the next one which occurs tonight, brings local favorites the Lassie Foundation, The Arrogants and Simple Spirits to The Nugget.

While the lasting implications are yet to be determined, "Indie Nite" is significant in the fact that it is the first concert to be put on by KBEACH, which airs over the Internet and over the University Student Union public address system.

All three bands have recently appeared on "The Indie Shop," which airs on KBEACH Wednesday nights from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The Lassie Foundation, who will be headlining, has released five albums and had their song "El Rey" featured in an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" last season. They have been compared to My Bloody Valentine, Superchunk and the slower, mellower moments of Smashing Pumpkins. They combine falsetto vocals and incorporate Beach Boys-esque harmony over a "shoegazer" rock sound.

The Arrogants, recently put out their debut release and have been likened to the slower moments of the Cranberries

KBEACH and the Union newspaper are jointly putting on the concert, which starts at 8:00 p.m. There is no cover charge and it is 18 and over.
