Junior forward Lori Harris scored the first-ever goal for the Long Beach State women's soccer team in its 4-1 loss against Loyola Marymount Tuesday afternoon.
The goal came off an assist from sophomore forward Dana Crutchfield. Harris received the ball on the fly and kicked it passed Lion goalkeeper Tracy Sharp to tie the game 1-1. The Lions wasted little time and responded with a goal 90 seconds later off of a direct kick to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second half.
Walk-on freshman Michaeli Ramage took over as the 49ers goalkeeper. Ramage finished the game with 10 saves.
Shots on goal proved to be a costly factor for The Beach (0-1). LMU (1-0) led a vigorous attack against the 49ers defense with 18 shots on goal, compared to The Beach's five shots on goal.
The Beach can redeem its loss at home on Friday, when it hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills at George Allen Field at 1 p.m.
