Maxson needs support

Cal State Long Beach President Robert Maxson held a public forum Monday to garner student, faculty and staff opinion on the campus issues that affect us.

The meeting is held every semester so people affiliated with the school can get upfront information on CSULB events directly from the source - the president.

Maxson took it as a blessing when only nine people showed up to Monday's meeting, and was quoted as saying "When things are going well, people don't come."

Maxon's upbeat, positive spirit is always appreciated, however, it is far from a blessing that only nine out of about 30,000 students showed up to educate themselves on campus issues.

It is like not voting - there is no excuse for such apathy.

The situation is closer to an embarrassment than a blessing. With a progressive president like Maxson, students, faculty and staff should be encouraged to take up their problems with him directly, knowing that he is open to change and is ready and willing to jump on concerns.

The very fact that he holds these meetings should be proof enough that he wants to help.

Give our campus and our president some support; he cannot take the initiative to correct problems when he has no idea what types of issues are affecting us.
