Identification cards raise fury

Dear Editor,

Judging by Tom Enders' comments in the Nov. 24 Daily Forty-Niner, it seems to me that he does not understand the complaints and criticism about the new identification cards.

I do not think any of us - faculty, staff or students - are disputing the need to have new cards issued, or for that matter, the decision by the university to use an AT&T system. What concerns many of us is the attempt first to lure us into signing up for AT&T phone cards and then cajole us in a sales pitch if we choose to decline the offer.

Worst of all, it is just one more sign of the selling off of Cal State Long Beach and offering up its constituency to cut deals with private corporations.

Though perhaps not quite as egregious as the killed-CETI deal that the Chancellor's Office tried to close last year, the AT&T deal seems to be taking us down the same path.
