A car chase, which began in Norwalk followed by an argument between two drivers, ended with gunfire in front of Brotman Hall Saturday at Cal State Long Beach.

The victim, Zedrick Alcantara, was transported by paramedics to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was treated for two gunshot wounds to his groin, a press release stated. Officials at St. Mary's said Zedrick was released on Sunday.

According to Jack Pearson, the chief of police at CSULB, nobody involved in the shooting has any connection to the campus.

"It was completely random," Pearson said, referring to the location of the crime.

Alcantara, who did not know the suspects by name, told police five to six suspects fled in a black Honda, possibly a Prelude, after the shooting, which happened at 7 a.m.

In the press release, Alcantara described one of the suspects as Asian, 5 feet 7 inches tall, of average build and with slicked black hair.

University Police is working with the Long Beach Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department in Norwalk on the investigation of the shooting.
