The early signing period for baseball, softball, men's volleyball and golf, and women's water polo was announced by the Long Beach State athletic department Monday.

Cleaning-up was the baseball team, which is reaping the benefits of its College World Series appearance last season.

Six new players will eventually join Dave Snow's squad.

The Dirtbags increased their depth on the mound by signing two right-handed and two left-handed pitchers.

The team also received commitments from one infielder and one outfielder.

The men's volleyball team received a commitment from 6-foot-4 outside hitter from Golden West College, Evan Hook.

In men's golf, two-time Foothill League champion Ryan Wyman signed with Bob Livingstone's squad.

The 49er softball team received an early commitment from utility infielder Kristina McCarty. She was named All-CIF and all-league last year as a junior.

In women's water polo, Ashley Richardson committed to Coach Sandy Vessy-Schneider's team. Richardson is a four-time varsity MVP, and was also named MVP of both the Grossmont League and the National Junior Olympics 15 and under team.
