Running shoes needed

If your destination is The Pyramid or the Carpenter Center, access to decent parking is just a stone's throw away.

However if you are off to study at University Library or have a class in one of the Liberal Arts Buildings, forget about it.

Unless you have on your running shoes, expect a good 15 minute walk to your destination from general parking in any of the lots on campus.

A Parking and Transportation Services brochure boasts "Shuttles visit the parking lots about every 10 minutes - so what difference does it make where you park on campus? Just park and ride, and you're there!"

We are not out there with our stopwatches, but from experience, we have found that the claim "every 10 minutes" does not exactly hold its ground. Not to mention waiting 15 minutes only to find that the entire student population has shoved its way in front of you and the shuttle doors slam in your face. Only another "10 minutes" to go.

During the peak hours, Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., only six shuttles operate.

For a student population of nearly 27,000 that has to fight with limited parking, CSULB needs more buses that arrive on consistent schedules so students can arrive to classes on time.
