A call for extra security on campus
Dear Editor:
Is it just me or has the crime log featured in the Daily Forty-Niner been getting longer and longer each week?
This is my third year on campus and I feel that it is safe to say that Cal State Long Beach is a very safe campus to be on. Although I very rarely walk alone on campus at night, when I do I never feel that my safety will be jeopardized. My car's jeopardy is a different matter.
Lately I have been noticing that car theft and vandalism are on the rise.
Every time I open the paper it seems like something has been happening in Lot 14. Like most other students I was not even sure where Lot 14 was, but today I found out that Lot 14 is the lot which I park in. Lot 14 (which used to be Lot B) is the BIG parking lot that is somewhere between Parkside Dorms and the Parking Structure.
I always assumed that Lot 14 was some small lot that thieves could get in and out of easily, but now I know that it is the lot in which I park in along with hundreds of other students.
This letter is to bring awareness of the location of the lot (since I know a lot of students do not know where it is) as well as to find out what University Police are doing to control car theft on campus.
I know that my $63 a semester parking permit does not ensure complete safety of my vehicle. However, I do expect my car to still be there when I walk back from class!
