Preparations are underway for a Cal State Long Beach night at Dodger Stadium. On April 21, 1999, the Dodgers will host the Atlanta Braves, with thousands of 49ers in the audience.

The event is one of many activities organized to celebrate the university's 50th Anniversary and to extend its image beyond the campus community, said Sheila Sales, a Dodger Event Committee member.

Students, staff, faculty and community members who wish to support CSULB are encouraged to purchase tickets at $9 each from volunteer representatives. The goal is to sell a minimum of 3,000 tickets.

A portion of the ticket sale proceeds will go toward academic and athletic scholarships at CSULB, committee member Stafford Cox said.

Organizations selling a minimum of 100 tickets will be permitted to participate in a pre-game ceremony on the field. They will also be acknowledged on the Diamond Vision big screen and receive a souvenir photograph of the Dodgers, as well as two complimentary tickets for a future game, Cox said.

The committee has generated several suggestions for the pre-game field ceremony, including President Maxson throwing out the first pitch, a CSULB student singing the national anthem, a campus band or dance team performance and special acknowledgment of groups or individuals, such as the women's volleyball team or the President's Scholars.

In addition, upcoming events such as Kaleidoscope could be announced during the game over the public address system, the committee said.

The committee of students, faculty and staff is organizing the event with approval by the Dodgers and university officials. Charter buses to the event can be arranged by contacting the committee.
