The No. 8 Long Beach State men's water polo team snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating No. 12 U.S. Air Force Academy 12-7 Sunday afternoon at the 49er Campus Pool.
The Beach had a tough time with the Falcons in the first half and struggled to build a 6-5 lead. After the hard fought first half, The Beach came out in the third period to put the Falcons away for good.
Four different players scored five goals in the third period for The Beach to take a commanding 11-6 lead.
Leading The Beach in scoring were senior 2-meter man Jeff Colyer and junior 2-meter man Corey Dolley with three goals each.
Other multi-goal scorers in the match included freshman defender Chris Segesman and freshman driver Tyler Wawrzynski. Senior driver Matt Tilton and junior driver Carlo Franzia rounded out the scoring for The Beach.
Senior goalie Adam Carter finished the game with 11 goals for the match.
On Saturday, The Beach wasted a 3-1 first-period lead and lost 12-6 to No. 6 Pepperdine in a non-confeence match at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu.
Segesman led all LBSU scorers with two goals in the match. Also scoring for The Beach were senior defender Vince Trotter, junior driver Adam Collins, sophomore driver Matt Sakatani and Dolley.
On Tuesday, The Beach lost to No. 3 UC Irvine 9-6 at the Belmont Plaza Pool.
UCI's Ryan Bailey opened the scoring with a two-point goal en route to a 4-0 lead. He would follow with another goal in the first period. Bailey finished the game with five goals and six total points.
Six different players scored for The Beach. Junior defender Shane Lindstrom, Trotter, Franzia, Sakatani, Segesman and Dolley each scored one goal. Carter had seven saves for the night.
The Beach will next be in action this Saturday afternoon when it faces
UC Santa Barbara at the Belmont Plaza Pool.
