Golfers struggle in Hawaii

The Long Beach State women's golf team finished 17th out of 18 participating schools in the Princeville Rainbow Wahine Classic in Kauai, Hawaii, on Nov. 2-3.

Leading The Beach was Amber Pearson, who finished 42nd out of 93 golfers. Pearson scored 79 in the first round, 76 in the second and 77 in the third, giving her a three-round total of 232.

Other team members contributing to LBSU's total score of 997 included Alexis Dunning with 237 and Isela Alvarado and Frederika Schalsberg each with 243.

Only two golfers in the tournament scored less than par 72. Angie Yoon from the University of Nevada had 4-under-par 68, for a total of 212, and Kathleen Takaishi from Oregon State University finished one stroke behind with 211.

Top 3 schools in the tournament were Oklahoma State University with a total of 875, Oregon State University with 884 and UCLA with 893.

The Beach will compete in its final competition of the semester this Sunday at the San Diego State University Fall Classic in Santee at the Carlton Oaks Country Club. The SDSU tournament will end on Tuesday.
