The Anteaters' Dan Klatt scores shot with one minute left in contest while teammate scores seven goals in victory

UC Irvine scored a game-winning shot with 52 seconds left in regulation to lift the Anteaters past the No. 7 Long Beach State men's water polo team 11-10 in a nonconference match at Heritage Park in Irvine.

UCI goalie Genai Kerr stole a pass and hit teammate Dan Klatt with a long pass. Klatt scored on a lob shot over the head of senior goalie Adam Carter.

The Beach tied the game twice in the fourth period. After UCI led 9-8, senior 2-meter man Jeff Colyer scored with less than six minutes remaining to tie the score. UCI's Ryan Bailey then scored with less than five minutes remaining to give the Anteaters a one-point lead.

Junior 2-meter man Corey Dolley had a second opportunity to tie the game when he was awarded a penalty shot with about 3 minutes remaining in the final period.

Dolley scored on the penalty shot to tie the game for The Beach, but the celebration was short-lived once Klatt scored the game-winning shot.

Bailey finished the game with seven goals, giving the No. 4 UCI to its seventh consecutive victory.

The Beach will have a second chance against UCI on Nov. 3, when the Anteaters travel to the Belmont Plaza Pool for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest.

The loss dropped The Beach's overall record to 7-9 and its MPSF record to 1-3.

The Beach will face UC San Diego on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Belmont Plaza Pool. The Beach will return to MPSF action Sunday at UCLA to face the No. 2 Bruins in an afternoon contest.
