The Greek system at Cal State Long Beach will join together to host CSULB's first annual Greek Week today, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Greek Week will begin today at 7 p.m. in the small auditorium in the University Student Union with Greek Sing.

Tiffany Perfetto, co-chair of Greek Sing, said that every fraternity was paired with a sorority and will perform a five minute skit or dance.

Approximately 300 people are expected to attend and tickets will be sold for $5 at the door. All proceeds will be donated to "For The Child," an organization that assists and councils physically and sexually abused children in Long Beach, Perfetto said.

The announcement of Hera and Zeus will also take place Monday night.

The Greek Week Committee wanted to recognize leaders in the fraternities and sororities. Every house elected individuals which best represent the chapter's high standards and expectations, Perfetto said.

These men and women went through an interview process conducted by various CSULB faculty members and winners were selected on the basis of leadership skills within the campus and Greek communities.

All participants not chosen will be demi-gods on the Greek court, Perfetto said.

A barbecue will also be held Tuesday and Wednesday in the USU southwest terrace to raise money for the charity. A package deal including a hamburger, chips and a soda will be on sale for $3, said Justin Ramirez, chairman of the Greek Week barbecue.

KROQ-FM will be at the event on Wednesday and will give out prizes to CSULB students present at the barbecue. Games will also be conducted for members of the Greek system, Ramirez said.

"We would love for all students at Cal State Long Beach to join us and celebrate our first Greek Week," Perfetto said.

The Greek system will celebrate a successful week Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Nugget, Perfetto said.

Perfetto said he expects next year's Greek Week to be bigger and better.

A committee will be formed next semester to begin preparations for the event.

Perfetto said that Greek Week events are held at many large schools in California such as USC, UCLA and UC Irvine and have proven to work well.

"It's a wonderful way to bring the system closer and work together for a good cause," Perfetto said.
