Concerned students want a Bikestation

Jenni Campbell

It's time for CSULB students, faculty, and administration to create a more bicycle friendly campus.

Concerned Students for a Bikestation is a new student organization formed for the purpose of creating a more bicycle-friendly campus.

Our methodology is simple: install a Bikestation on campus.

A Bikestation is a unique resource which provides secure, staffed bike parking, a repair shop to service flats and other minor repairs, access to changing rooms and showers, and even a small cafe for that cup of coffee or Powerbar before class. A Bikestation would help centralize bike traffic and create a safer commute for bicyclists and pedestrians.

CSULB is a bicycle commuter hub which is in desperate need of a bicycle plan. Parking is a mess, and bicycle commuting should be encouraged and rewarded. Bicycle thefts are on the increase according to campus police, and universities notoriously offer a high concentration of good quality bikes to thieves.

Access to campus for bicyclists is awkward and difficult, and often dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Having a Bikestation would ease the parking situation, promote cleaner air, reduce congestion, thwart bicycle thieves, and provide safer bicycle commuting to campus by centralizing bicycle traffic.

If you like the idea of parking your bike in a safe, convenient place, and knowing that your bike will be there when you return, then please support the Concerned Students for a Bikestation.
