The local dregs were out in mass last Saturday night and they united in a dark yet welcoming environment, known as the Juke Joint. Their goal was to absorb a plethora of alcohol, conversation and live music.
Droid, a local band, was the main attraction of the evening and drew an impressive crowd. I walked through the front door at the exact moment the band began to play and immediately asked the door person how many heads she had counted. "257 including you," she said.
I had previously heard of Droid, but was absolutely shocked at the amount of people in this small bar. The place was packed like a bag of ice.
Droid thundered through several songs in the amount of time it took me to walk through the crowd, finagle a spot at the bar and order a drink.
Droid is a new-school metal band similar to Korn and the Deftones. The formula for this type of music is similar and seems to be popular these days. Droid is a blend of heavy guitars, deep bass lines, thundering drums, mixed with roaring vocals.
Droid, led by a menacing singer, performed solid throughout its entire set and kept the crowd moving with its furious on-stage energy. The singer solicited the crowd's attention with his physical antics and tormenting voice.
By the time I had finished my second drink, Droid was packing up its
equipment and my cab was idling outside. Saturday was fun and I saw many
people out, but I did not see you. Maybe next time.
