Women's golf has off day

Team finishes second to last at Northwest Invitational

The Long Beach State women's golf team had a disappointing tournament in Corvallis, Ore. on Monday and Tuesday. The Beach placed 12th overall out of 13 participating schools at the Northwest Invitational.

The Beach's top golfer, Fredrika Schlasberg, placed 52nd out of 75 participants with a three-round-total of 246.

After finishing behind her teammates in the first round with an 86, Schlasberg swung ahead to lead The Beach with scores of 79 and 81 in the final two rounds.

Other golfers contributing to The Beach's final score of 997 were Alexis Dunning with a total of 249, Isela Alvarado with 251 and Amber Pearson with 252.

Pepperdine University's Tamie Durdin and University of Washington's Kelli Kamimura tied after three rounds with a total of 213.

During playoffs, Durdin made par on the first hole of 347 yards and took the first-place title.

The top three schools in the tournament were University of Washington with a combined four-player-total of 899, Pepperdine with 900 and Oregon State University with 904.

The Beach will compete Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 at the Fall Golf Classic at Princeville Golf Course in Kauai, Hawaii.
