For several years there have been two camps in hip hop. One is the money flaunting, women degrading, players and gangsters who think they are rappers. The others are those who make fun of them.
Very few rappers break into the mainstream without conforming to one of these camps, but A Tribe Called Quest continues to rock without conforming.
With the recent release of its fifth album, "The Love Movement," the gauntlet has definitely been thrown in the arena of rap.
Come original and have something creative to say, or do not come at all. There is a reason that when you walk into a music shop you see a "rock, pop and soul" section and a section that is simply labeled "Rap."
Tribe's new album is a return to the time when hip hop was fun and is the antithesis to most any rap on the charts in that it will be candy for the ears and food for the soul.
My space here is limited, but when you feel the music you will know what I am saying.
In Stores this week is a new project from Heltah Skeltah and the soundtrack
to the movie Slam. I have not hard the soundtrack yet, but it should be
good since Mobb Deep, Big Pun, KRS and various other talents appear. Till
next week - peace.
