In efforts to close the gap between collector and artist, the Cal State Long Beach art department has created a free service to give help to community members who may be interested in buying reasonably priced student art.
The service created a year ago by graduate student Cheri Davis is slide registry program.
It began in response to frequent inquiries the department was receiving from persons in the community interested in viewing and purchasing student works.
The service not only helps individuals looking to furnish their homes or offices with stylish student art, it also gives students a chance to showcase their talent and cash in.
The registry also gives students a chance to display artworks and may open doors for student artists who are seeking a promising career in the field.
"The registry gives more exposure to master's candidates and undergraduate art students looking to further their artistic opportunities," Graduate Assistant Cheryl Delson said.
Student art can be viewed in the department slide library. When an individual finds a piece of artwork that he or she is interested in purchasing, the price and the artist's phone number will be given.
The slide registry is open to any interested student artist. Students must prepare a maximum of 20 professional-looking slides and issue them to the art department.
The works can range anywhere from drawings, paintings, ceramics, metal work, woodwork, sculptures, photography and jewelry or any type of style. All proceeds are paid directly to the artists.
For more information, one may call the art department's Student Services Office at (562) 985-7819.
