Cal State Long Beach is now one step further in the computer age with the linking of the Encylopedia Britannica to Coast, the school's on-line catolog.
With the touch of a button, students can browse the on-line encyclopedia and refer back to Coast to find out if the University Library has the desired item on its shelves.
The on-line encyclopedia contains text and images from its latest edition, including many articles not found in the print version.
The site also contains the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, Britannica Book of the year and links to other web sites.
"Britannica has particular significance to CSULB because of the key role alumnus Harold Kester played in its development," said Joan McCauley, CSULB librarian. "Kester was responsible for the basic design, search and retrieval software used in the database."
The Library has made Britannica Online accessible to the entire campus community.
To access the web site one can go to Coast and click on to Britanicca Online.
