When people woke up Monday morning and turned on the television they were faced with President Clinton looking back. They could have changed channels, but there was no getting away from him. His grand jury testimony was released Monday ... for the whole world to see.
The footage released on national television is just another bashing blow by Republicans to embarrass the president. Grand jury testimony is supposed to be confidential, at least according to the law.
It seems Starr had this all planned out. He got permission to videotape Clinton's testimony with the intention of handing the videotapes over to Congress as part of his report. Sure, Congress debated for a couple of days about whether to release the tapes, but was there ever a doubt?
After watching the testimony on television you realize Clinton shot himself in the foot. He rambled on and on, and never gave a clear answer.
People only feel sorry for him because of the bashing he is getting from the Republicans and the media. Most people think what he did with Lewinsky was wrong. However, the bashing he is getting in the public eye is not appropriate.
It is obvious that Clinton is not getting one. The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives everyone the right to a fair trial. When a judge is faced with the decision between the right to a fair trial and freedom of the press - the First Amendment - judges always rule in favor of a fair trial. I guess it doesn't apply to Clinton.
