The Long Beach State men's water polo team lost its first game of the season 12-6 to No. 5-ranked USC Trojans Tuesday night at McDonald's Swim Stadium, located on the USC campus.
George Csaszar, a sophomore driver from Hungary making his first collegiate appearance, torched The Beach with seven goals and eight points overall.
The Beach, which was ranked No. 9 going into the game, fell behind early in the game and was forced to play catch-up all night.
The Trojans built first-half leads of 4-0 and 6-1, and ended the first half with a 6-3 lead. In the third quarter, The Beach picked up its game, and pulled within one point of tying the Trojans. This is when the Trojans' George Csaszar took control of the game.
After LBSU scored to cut USC's lead to 7-6, Csaszar scored on a two-point goal. He capped the Trojan victory by scoring three more goals in the final quarter. Csaszar finished the second half scoring all six points for USC.
Freshman two-meter man Chris Segesman led the 49er scoring attack with two goals. Senior two-meter man Jeff Coyler, junior defender Shane Lindstrom, senior driver Matt Tilton and senior defender Vince Trotter each contributed one goal to round out the scoring for The Beach.
Senior goalie Adam Carter ended the game with 13 saves. The loss dropped LBSU's record to 1-1.
