Month full of tasty choices
After a slew of solid cameo appearances and L.L. disses, Canibus came out last week with his first solo project, "Can-I-Bus?" The most anticipated debut in hip hop since Snoop's "Doggystyle" hit with a vengeance.
This is a concept album, which screams, "You don't know what hip hop is and I'm gonna show you how it's done," Canibus' unique style and intricate lyrics make this a joint to pick up, but you might be disappointed by the beats.
In other album news, the new Cypress Hill album sounds lovely. Expect more of the signature sound that made them one of the first and few rap groups to cross over without selling out.
Alternative cats like the sound for the same reason that some rap fans like Rage Against the Machine, it is fast and crazy.
In case you did not see the MTV Music Video Awards, Busta Rhymes' Flip Mode Squad is dropping its group project on Sept. 22. Also on that day expect the sophomore release from local emcee extraordinaire Ras Kass.
Then on the 29th, Brand Nubian members try their hand at this get-back-together tilt in hip hop and a new Outkast album hits the stores.
Kurupt's "Kuruption" drops on Oct. 6 and will be a double album - unfortunately featuring Foxy Brown.
Then on the 13th, the Wyclef empire expands with Pras' solo joint.
It is going to be a healthy month for hip hop, so get your veggies. Peace.
