Sophmore forward Kelli Barrett scored three goals for the Long Beach State women's soccer team over the weekend to help the team split a pair of games in northern California.
The 49ers lost 2-1 to Sacramento State Sunday afternoon. In the game, Jessica Mackiewicz scored both goals for the Hornets to lead them past The Beach. Barrett provided the only scoring for The Beach when she beat Hornet goalkeeper Kristy Milanese with a rolling shot into the left hand corner. Nicole Avila was credited with the assist on the play.
Mackiewicz sealed the contest early in the second half when she beat 49er goalie Michaeli Ramage with the game-winning goal. Ramage ended the game with six saves.
Thursday night, Barrett was the one with the big game as she scored both goals in the 49ers' 2-1 victory over San Jose State.
Barrett's header turned out to be the game-winner when she scored 40 minutes into the first half. Barrett scored her first goal off an assist from Lori Harris.
The Spartans completely dominated the second half, outshooting The Beach 15-4. However, San Jose State came up empty as the 49ers were able to stop a number of Spartan attacks. Goalie Ramage ended the game with five saves.
The weekend split left the women's soccer team with a 3-3 record for the season.
The Beach's next game will be against Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday.
The game begins at 2:30 p.m. at the George Allen Field.
