The Associated Students Senate is looking for three interested Cal State Long Beach students to sit on the Campus Climate Committee, a voluntary organization in charge of examining campus policies on discrimination.

The eleven-member committee will include staff members, faculty, lecturers and administrators, along with the three Senate-appointed students.

Interested students need to first make an appointment to speak with A.S.I. President Christy Zamani to explain why they are right for the job, Director of Student Life Dr. Stuart Farber said.

Zamani will take her recommended applicants to the A.S. Senate and the senators will vote to approve or reject her suggestions, Farber said.

Those with expertise in the area of discrimination and the desire to promote the tolerance of different cultures and lifestyles are encouraged to apply.

"I think this is good that this position is open to any student," Farber said. "It gives the C.C.C. a good representation of our student body."

The members of the committee will need to attend C.C.C. meetings every three to four weeks, said Alan Nishio, associated vice president for student services.

"We do not expect the student to serve any longer than one year unless they are nominated again the second year," Nishio said.

Academic Senate Chairman Simeon Crowther said in a memo calling for nominations that members of the committee will be required to make recommendations and reports to President Robert Maxson on how the campus can continue to promote mutual respect in a diverse campus community.

Faculty and staff who are interested in serving on the C.C.C. need to apply through the Academic Senate. The applications are due in the Academic Senate office by Friday, the memo said.
