Get out the vote

Apathetic students beware. Voter registration is coming to Cal State Long Beach.

At the California Faculty Association meeting Tuesday, Lisa Belsanti, an organizer on loan for Service Employees International Union, said she is working with the CFA to encourage faculty to help with the drive to register students.

"There is going to be a major blitz on campus to drop by and visit faculty in their offices. I have forms to give to the faculty members to find out what they are going to do to help," she said.

Unregistered citizens who want to vote in November must register by Oct. 5.

According to Belsanti, the plan is to have CFA faculty members volunteer at the voter registrations tables during the week of Sept. 28 to help students fill out the forms.

Anthropology professor Eugene Ruyle said the voter registration office is being contacted by CFA faculty to determine if a voting booth can be placed on campus for the dormitory students who cannot go to their regular polling places.

"I am also going to encourage students to make use of the absentee voter ballots," Ruyle said.
