An open letter to the CSULB community

Today is the first day of classes for fall 1998 for the Cal State Long Beach campus. It's also my first day as editor in chief of your campus newspaper the Daily Forty-Niner.

Like every editor before me my expectations and goals are limitless. I intend for my semester to be the best one yet. This semester will be unforgettable, as we are celebrating the forty-ninth year of the newspapers commitment to the CSULB community.

The Daily Forty-Niner has recently been recognized as one of the best college newspapers in the state, and I plan on continuing to make it even better.

It may sound like my head is the clouds, but we at the Forty-Niner have goals for our newspaper this semester. One of our goals is to increase campus communication. Nothing is more important on a university campus than the exchange of information.

I welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can make the Daily Forty-Niner the best it can be.

Jay Seidel is editor in chief of the Daily Forty-Niner.
