Fall Fest '97 is around the corner, and the Associated Students Inc. is putting the last-minute details in order for the first annual carnival to be held at Cal State Long Beach.
Fall Fest will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 19, in parking lot B, and will feature a variety of entertainment from organizations located on and off campus.
A.S.I. has been allotted $32,500 to spend on Fall Fest.
The money is from contributions, A.S.I. fees and ticket sales, according to the Fall Fest '97 revised budget projection.
The largest contribution came from the Office of the President, which gave A.S.I. $11,000.
A.S.I. funds from the Current Year Unallocated Fund (CYUF) contributed $8,050.
The CYUF comes from student fees that are given to A.S.I. to spend on unspecified campus events or organizations. Other revenue being calculated is $5,000 of projected ticket sales.
The A.S.I. said they do not expect to make a profit on this year's event. Expenses range from entertainment and game booth rentals to public safety. According to A.S.I. President Naomi Rodriguez, the largest amount of money has gone to the hiring of campus security.
"We have to have an individual there every night to watch equipment," she said. "Throughout the event we will have our security on site, as well as student escorts in neighborhoods."
Student escorts will serve as campus security and they will patrol the neighborhoods to make sure Fall Fest attendees do not park there. Free parking will be available on campus.
Entertainment for Fall Fest will include a variety of bands. Music will range from hip-hop to swing, with entertainers such as Nada Nuf and Eddie Reed.
Also scheduled to perform are CSULB-based group Homemade Gravy and a CSULB Salsa band.
A.S.I. Senator and Fall Fest concert coordinator Noemi Hernandez said that other bands she is trying to confirm are disco group Booty Quake and reggae band Hep Cat.
The Maurer Concession Company has been hired to provide carnival rides.
Kaleidocarnival, a division of Kaleidoscope, will provide plenty of opportunities to win prizes at various game booths.
Forty Niner Shops Inc. and a variety of student clubs will be on hand offering pizza, hot-dogs and shaved ice.
Admission to the carnival and entertainment is free. Rides will cost .60 cents each. Food and games will have an additional charge.
