"I know What You Did Last Summer" presents the usual suspense thriller recipe: lame story; good-looking, young people; lots of T & A. IÕm not saying I was not on the edge of my seat. Kevin Williamson, creator of "Scream," once again offers the great date movie. Guys, if you want an excuse to get close to that special someone, this is the movie. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is about four teenagers presented with a decision that will alter their lives forever. The theme is somewhat original, but the story seems to be underdeveloped. Director Jim Gillespie seems more interested in a good scare than in telling a good story. Unfortunately, the movie lacks the humor and titillating suspense of "Scream." Viewers can expect a pretty good scare. For movie-goers who crave good-old-fashioned gore and blood, however, this flick will prove satisfying. The movie is billed as a psychological thriller, leading one to expect a more mentally intriguing plot. For some reason, though, the "who done it?" was not very suspenseful. To the movieÕs benefit, a great cast was chosen, although the two female leads, to their detriment, were overshadowed by the cleavage shots that seemed to be a staple of this movie. Jennifer Love Hewitt ("Party of Five") and Sarah Michelle Gellar ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") were definitely strong enough actors to have carried the movie. Hewitt is a talented actress and is able to make the audience empathize with her good-soul character. Gellar, the beauty queen, wins us over with the transition her character undergoes in the movie. The two male leads, played by relative unknowns Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze, Jr., are also victims of an underdeveloped story line. They did an adequate job with what they were given, but their characters were seriously lacking substance. The movie is slated for release Oct. 17, just in time for Halloween.
