Low revenues from ticket sales for Fall Fest '97 and a deficit in the amount owed to contractors resulted in a loss of more than $3,000 for Associated Students Inc. according to an income statement released Tuesday by A.S.I.

The budgeted amount for ticket sales was $5,500. Actual ticket sales resulted in only $1,629.

The financial problems of last month's event have not eliminated the possibility that the event will become a tradition at Cal State Long Beach, said Linda Sherwood, Associated Student Government secretary.

Fall Fest was intended to take place on the streets near CSULB to attract a larger crowd, but A.S.I. did not want to displease neighbors, Sherwood said.

Changes for next year's fest are being considered. Possibilities include a change in location, more advertising throughout the campus and the city, and more carnival rides for adults.

Sherwood partially blamed the low ticket sales for this year's carnival on failure to notify the public of the availability of presale tickets.

The goal of Fall Fest '97 was to break even, according to Sherwood.

"We're in the learning process right now, it is going to take some time to grow and blossom like Kaleidoscope," Sherwood said.
