Cal State Long Beach women's volleyball player Misty May was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

This is the third time the junior setter has received the honor this season.

"I was surprised," May said. "Three times, I didn't think you could vote for someone this many times."

She is the only player this season that received this award multiple times. She was named player of the week twice last season.

May led The Beach to two victories this past week. In the 49er victory against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo last Thursday, May had 7 kills, 51 assists and 13 digs.

She also tallied two aces.

In last Saturday's game against No. 14 University of Hawaii, May scored her second triple-double of the season. Her 11 kills, 11 digs and 32 assists paved the way for the 49ers victory and its No. 1 ranking.

"It's not something I think about as I'm playing," May said.

May is fourth in the Big West Conference in hitting percentage at .375, fifth in assists per game with 11.53 and third in service aces per game at .44.

"I like it, it's nice that they recognize women's sports," May said.
