Students can apply to 22 California State University campuses through CSUMentor, a new website that assists students who plan on attending college.
The site was designed by XAP Corporation with the assitance of Fay Denny, associate director of admissions at Cal State Long Beach.
Access to the website, www.csumento.edu, is free to students.
The website is designed for high school students so that personal and scholastic data can be entered continuously throughout their high school or CSU education.
During the period that a student submits his or her information, the system will determine which campus closesly matches a student's best option.
The CSU Mentor system also helps students plan for CSU entrance requirements, which high school courses to take, what grades they need to maintain and when and where they may take SAT and ACT tests.
"It's like having a person at your side helping you prepare for college and helping you submit the application," Allen Firstenberg, president of XAP corporation said.
Also avalibale through CSUMentor, students can access a free, private e-mail account so that it can allow them to communicate directly with CSU campus representatives.
"There are savings issues involved with using the system," Firstenberg said. "When a student submits and application through the website, there is no postage that has to be paid and the software checks the application for the student."
CSUMentor also provides information on financial aid along with virtual tours of each campus.
"We expect visitors to the website within the first year," Allison Jones, CSU senior director of access and retention at the Chancellor's Office said. "We are reaching out to students as early as possible to ensure that they are prepared for the collegiate experience."
The website also provides comparative information about enrollment, average class size, total costs and geographical location on the CSU campuses.
Students have a chance to win a $1,000 award if they submit a CSU application during the month of November.
