Deep thoughts

I certainly hope volleyball fans on campus are considering not attending the women's NCAA Playoff game at The Pyramid on Saturday. Please, by all means, don't let the simple fact that students don't get in for free stop you from mixing in a little support.

Time and again people around here blab about school spirit and how they show it at these (free) volleyball games.

However, when it is time to throw down a buck or two (besides for beer at the concession stand) people seem to chose to turn the other cheek and stay home to watch "Cops."

The whole idea behind the soon-to-be state-of-the-art sports arena in downtown Los Angeles basically stinks.

It is going up because Los Angeles sports fans are so spoiled that they need a "good" place to watch their games, if they were to go at all.

As if the teams on the floor and ice will be any different. There will be the same Lakers and Kings.

My question is, where were you fans (the ones in those 'luxury' boxes) when the teams were gutting it out in the old Great Western Forum?

They were at home eating sushi and listening to Kenny G.

The new arena will house nothing but spoiled businessmen taking clients to a game to brown nose. "Uh, is that what that is down there? A basketball game?"

Because arena officials need to cater to barneys like these, Joe Shmo will not be able to take his son and daughter to a game because a single ticket could feed his family for a week.

Mr. Shmo is yhe one who has his affairs in order. All the yuppies should do their business on the golf course.

Did you see where the Long Beach State men's basketball team erupted for 74 points the other day? That will surely improve its 53 point per game average.

I think it's really cute that a campus newspaper is giving the Greeks a chance to let everyone know how wonderful they are. Although as fellow columnists, I thought the writer and I were friends.

Oh, I guess not ... I must have forgotten to pay my friendship dues for the month.
