Hall of Fame picks six CSULB legends

Cal State Long Beach again paid tribute to its rich athletic heritage Monday with the induction of eight sports greats into the 49er Hall of Fame. The honored group of inductees includes:
- Former women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini.
In her 12 years (1980-91) at the helm of the 49er program, Bonvicini Compiled a 325-71 record, for a winning percentage of .821. Bonvicini was honored as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 1985-86. Under her leadership, the 49ers won or shared 10 conference titles and attended back to back NCAA Final Fours.
- Professional golfer Paul Goydos.
Goydos has been a member of the PGA Tour since 1983. He graduated from CSULB in 1988, with a bachelor's degree in Finance. Competed for the 49er golf team from 1982-85, earning All-PCAA honors in 1985. As a pro, Goydos has won several tournaments, including the 1990 Long Beach Open and the 1996 Bay Hill Invitational.
- Long Beach Press-Telegram Sports Editor Jim McCormack.
McCormack started out with the Press-Telegram in 1962, covering high school sports. He served as Long Beach State athletics beat reporter from 1967-80. In his over 30 years in Journalism, McCormack has covered the Los Angeles Rams and Dodgers, and done freelance work with a number of organizations, including covering Super Bowl I for Sports Illustrated.
- Tarik Yassir, the only male four-time All-American at CSULB (1984-87).
A fencing legend, Yassir was voted outstanding Sabre fencer in 1985, when he took second place in the NCAA competition. He won the Long Beach Century Club award in 1985 and 1986.
- Former football, tennis and golf coach Robert Pestolisi.
Pestolisi is the only individual to coach CSULB athletes in three sports. He was Line Coach for the football team in 1955. He served as tennis coach from 1955-58, Pestolisi also held the position of golf coach in 1972 and 1973, leading the team to a conference championship the second year. He lettered in golf at CSULB in 1952, while earning his master's degree.
- Former 49er Basketball and Volleyball players Donna and Jeanine Prindle, who played from 1971-73.
The Prindles, who are identical twins, were stars on coach Dixie Grimmett's undefeated AIAW national championship volleyball team of 1972 and national runner-up team of 1971. The sisters are now on separate campuses. Jeanine Prindle teaches and coaches at Cerritos Community College, while Donna Prindle does the same at Long Beach CC.
- Henry Schofield, four-year captain of the CSULB and Pacific Coast District sailing teams (1964-67).
Schofield was named North American Sailor of the year in 1967, when he was inducted into the College sailing Hall of Fame.
