Frog's at The Pyramid attracts not only students and staff, but also local residents.
This fitness and aerobic facility at The Pyramid is celebrating it's one year anniversary this month and the 18,000 square foot workout facility is regarded by some students as one of the most innovative and entertaining gyms in the world.
But what separates Frog's from other college campus gyms is its diverse clientele.
Frog's offers an aerobic program, weight machines and a free fitness evaluation.
It seems fitness evaluation has become important for some of the older health-conscious Frog's members.
Fitness evaluation includes taking blood pressure, measuring body composition, giving a postural and flexibility exam, taking heart rate and recording a brief medical history of the individual.
The first members to join Frog's Yvonne and Lucy Wescott, said they like the gym's atmosphere and its accessibility.
"It's a very nice atmosphere," said Long Beach resident Lucy Wescott. "I like the kids. They don't care if you are old or if you are young or if you are skinny or if you are fat."
"The location is convenient. Every day I pick up Yvonne, who works at the cafeteria at Parkside Commons and we come here," she added.
By being accessible to people of all ages, Frog's has a unique atmosphere.
"You see a lot of people that probably live in and around here," Frog's member Mackie Reyes said. "The environment is really clean and well-kept."
Yvonne Wescott also said she likes the club's diversity. "My husband and I both work out (at Frog's) and it has become a big part of our general health," she said. "We aren't as young as we used to be."
