The primary purpose of a university is to instill proper education and to establish rapport between the administration, faculty, staff and students. Educational programs are essential tools in order to fulfill this goal.
Vision 2001, is a program designed to enhance Cal State Long Beach's educational standards. It is a clear example of an educational program that will make CSULB an institution of excellent teaching.
The program seeks to improve CSULB's educational standards through the implementation of multi-disciplinary courses and the application of technology.
Hence, the creation of 12 to 15 unit blocks of preparatory English and mathematics courses will assist freshmen students in duly learning basic grammar, writing techniques and algebra.
These courses will prepare them for higher level English and mathematics courses that require tremendous amounts of problem solving, writing assignments and projects.
These courses will help students pass the dreaded Writing Proficiency Examination that CSULB students must take in order to graduate.
Targeting sophomore and junior students, Vision 2001 plans to meet the core requirement courses such as political science and history.
Yet, the foremost benefit of the upgrading plan is the extension of student services that will be inclusive to students of all cultural backgrounds.
The objective is to improve relationships between the administration, faculty, staff and students.
It is also planned to instill a more harmonious environment to make their stay on CSULB enjoyable according to Associated Students Vice President Celene Cordero.
Vision 2001 recognizes the students of different cultures who attend CSULB, and will continue to celebrate the campus' diversity through the creation of such porgrams.
Though it is still in the planning stages, through Vision 2001 CSULB will reach its zenith of excellence not only in teaching but in administration as well.
