From the classic bulletin board to the present job listing newspaper and other forms of job searching, the Career Development Center has come up with the easiest method for students yet. Jobtrak On-Line offers students the most convenient and fastest way to look for job opportunity.
Jobtrak offers students not only job listings, but also company profiles, employment statistics, resume writing tips and graduate school information. It allows students to search for jobs by type of work, keyword, state or company name. Students can narrow hundreds of jobs down to only to those they are interested in. In other words, this on-line service saves a student's valuable time.
Moreover, the jobs posted on Jobtrak are specially targeted toward CSULB students and alumni. "These jobs are strictly our students," said Hal Schaffer, a career counselor. "These companies want our students." said Schaffer, who has worked at the Career Development Center for 11 years.
Students can get access to most of the jobs the Career Development Center receives. Information about 60 percent of these jobs can be found in the Jobtrak On-Line while the other 40 percent is available at the Career Development Center's resource room.
According to Schaffer, Jobtrak gives students an advantage over all other options. "You can get exactly what you see in the newspaper (Jobtrakker)," Schaffer said. All of the jobs listed in Jobtrakker will be on Jobtrak On-Line and students can print them out at home.
To get access to Jobtrak On-Line, students need to go to the Career Development Center and fill out a form. This requires a social security number or a student identification number. The number will be the password to get on Jobtrak On-Line. This process only takes about two days. Alumni who are interested can also get access to the service by paying an annual fee of $25.
Using the on-line service, students can contact and send their resumes directly to employers. The Center has experienced counselors who are there to help students with resume writing.
The Career Development Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located in Room 250 in the Administration Building.
